Paine (Robert Treat) is born in Boston.

March 11, 1731

The son of Rev. Thomas and Eunice (Treat) Paine, Robert Treat Paine graduates from Harvard College, is admitted to the bar, marries Sally Cobb in 1770, and lives near today’s 75 Milk Street. He serves as a member of the Provincial Congress (1774-1775), the Continental Congress (1774-1776), is a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1777), the first Massachusetts attorney general (1777-1790), a member of the governor’s council (1779-80), a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1779, and serves on the Supreme Judicial Court (1790-1804). Paine dies in Boston on May 11, 1814, and is buried in the Granary Burying Ground.
